The U.S. House is back from spring recess, tulips are in bloom and many dozens of associations will send members to Capitol Hill this week as fly-in season kicks into high gear.
Among those packing the halls of Congress: Hundreds of surgeons, beer wholesalers, water professionals, mortgage brokers and bankers, dental students and educators, restaurateurs, insurance agents and cattle ranchers.
More than 30 professional societies and other organizations will participate in the annual STEM on the Hill Congressional Visits Day, including IEEE-USA, American Chemical Society and the Optical Society. Scientists, engineers and researchers will argue for more federal investment in research and development. A reception with exhibits will be held in the Rayburn House Office Building foyer Tuesday, with fly-in visits Wednesday.
About 400 people hold invitations to one of the hottest events each year, GRAMMYS on the Hill. The Recording Academy will honor the Zac Brown Band and Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Thomas Rooney (R-Fla.) Wednesday evening. More than 50 members of Congress will attend, along with many GRAMMY-winning artists. Hill visits are Thursday.
